I’ve been eating gluten-free since 2011. In fact, I’m still doing it now.
I’ve tried many different diets over the years, but none have worked quite like this one. For me, it’s simple including these:
-or anything else containing gluten.
The problem is, there are hundreds of foods out there that contain gluten, and most people don’t know how to identify them.

I love eating Indian food, especially the curries. I’ve been fortunate enough to travel extensively throughout India over the years. One thing I always look forward to during my trips are the delicious breakfasts served at the hotels where I’m staying. In fact, even though I don’t eat meat, I usually choose vegetarian options because they’re often tastier than those prepared with beef.
But one day while checking out the breakfast buffet at the hotel where I was staying in Goa. I noticed something peculiar: there was no mention of any breads. Instead, there were several varieties of flatbreads, including naan, paratha, roti, chapati, etc., but none of them were labeled “gluten free.”

In India, it is common to find people eating roti, a flatbread, made out of millet flour. This gluten-free option is usually served alongside dal (lentils), vegetables, and chutneys. But what is millet? Millet is actually a cereal grain, similar to rice or corn, and is used as a staple food in some parts of Asia. In fact, millet is one of the oldest crops known to man.
Millets grow best in warm climates, and are most commonly found in Africa, South America, and India. They are easy to cultivate and store well, making them ideal for areas where there is little rainfall. Millet is high in protein, fiber, iron, calcium, zinc, magnesium, vitamin B6, and folate.
The gluten-free millet roti recipe I tried recently was delicious, and even though it was hard to find online, you can easily make it yourself.
Which Indian Food is Gluten Free: Dosa, a gluten free dish from South India also found in the North
A popular breakfast item in South India, the dosa is a traditional crepe made from fermented black lentils and rice flour. Although it originated in South India, you’ll find it served throughout the region, including in the North.
In fact, the dosa is one of the most common foods eaten in Rajasthan, a state in Northern India where I lived for three months during my travels.
The dosa is typically accompanied by a side of spicy chutney, usually made from tamarind juice. However, some people prefer to eat the dosa plain.
I ate mine with a side of masala potatoes, a favorite snack in Rajasthan.
Although the dosa is traditionally made with rice flour, some vendors make theirs out of wheat flour.
