Is Indian food famous in South Korea? Indian food and Bollywood are becoming more and more popular among Koreans. It seems that this is leading to a growing interest in Indian culture in Korea.
K-Pop idols have often sung in Hindi and have sometimes talked about making a crossover with Bollywood. Even though the K-wave has been popular in India for only a few years, references to India have been common in South Korean dramas and variety shows for much longer.
Is Indian Food Famous in South Korea?

Koreans on YouTube are watching a lot of videos from India. Everything is welcome in Korea, from Indian travel blogs to Bollywood reaction videos.
Hoon and Min are Korean YouTubers. A number of Mukbang videos show that Koreans love Indian food. Professional Mukbangers are now trying out Indian food. Koreans love to eat Indian specialties like Soan papadi, Samosa, Rasgulla, and Biryani.
Which Indian food is famous in South Korea? Many K-POP singers, not just the Mukbangers, can be seen eating Indian food. In an interview with Rolling Stone India, members of the Korean boy band Ateez were seen eating Indian snacks. During the filming of “Fluttering India” in 2015, K-pop stars like Changmin from TVXQ, Kyuhyun from Super Junior, Minho from SHINee, Sunggyu from Infinite, Jonghyun from CNBLUE, and Suho from EXO all tried Indian food.

But it is not just Indian cuisine that is being lapped up by the Koreans, Bollywood has become the other hot import from India. Even though most Koreans don’t watch Bollywood movies because they are very different from the movies that are popular in Korea. Even though this is the case, some Bollywood movies have done well in Korea.
The movie “3 idiots” is very popular in South Korea, and almost every Korean has seen it. South Koreans also like to watch movies like Black, Taare Zameen Par, My Name is Khan, and so on.
Dangal, starring Aamir Khan, has been getting a lot of good reviews lately. In one of her YouTube videos, Solar, the leader of Mamamoo, said that “Dangal” is her favorite movie and even told her fans to watch it. Life of Pie, which also had music by Indian artists, was a huge hit in Korea.
Lay from EXO showed his love for Bollywood by appearing in the Indo-Chinese film “Kung-Fu Yoga,” which starred Jackie Chan, Sonu Sood, Disha Patani, and Amyra Dastur.
Indian Music

South Korea also seems to like Indian music. Tunak Tunak Tun, a song by Daler Mehndi from the 1990s, was a huge hit in Korea and is still played on Korean dramas and variety shows. Even RM said in an interview with Rolling Stone India, “I could say that ‘Tunak Tunak Tun’ is the most popular Indian song in Korea.”
Many Korean YouTubers make reaction videos to Bollywood songs. People have seen K-Pop groups like VAV, K.A.R.D, M.O.N.T, and 3YE shaking their legs to Bollywood songs. In 2019, the Kpop group IN2IT also made a cover of a Bollywood dance.
India’s growing popularity is also reflected in K-Dramas and Korean movies. We see references to India here and there in Korean dramas. In 2011, Kim Ji Won pretended to be an Indian on the popular Korean sitcom High Kick 3, where she wore a full Indian outfit.
Kim Ji Won as an Indian. The popular Punjabi song Tunak Tunak Tun was also used as a ringtone for one of the characters in the 2017 Kdrama Strong Woman Do Bong Soon. Recent movies like Start-up and Old School Intern made references to 2020 India. In one scene of the first, an Indian customer asked for Lassi. In the second, the main character, Park Hae Jin, said, “Mai Ga Yeol Chan bol rha hu, Rancho Ji,” which is Hindi.
Rancho Ji Mr. Even though most of the references were made for comedy, they show that Korea is becoming more interested in India.
The popularity of Hallyu in India is a big reason why more and more Koreans are interested in living there. Respecting each other’s cultural values is the key to building a strong relationship between the two countries, as it is in any relationship. Even though India has a very diverse and rich culture, Korean influences are being welcomed by the people there.
Because of this, Koreans are also learning more about Indian culture. Bollywood culture is known all over the world, but it still has to go a long way to get to Korea. Since Koreans are becoming more interested in Indian culture, Indian culture in Korea has been slowly growing and having more of an impact in recent years.
